BMW Mini Electric Power Steering Pump Failure

This is a very common problem on all BMW Mini models built between 2001 to 2007, the pump can start off noisy and eventually the electric motor can also fail without warning causing the steering to become very heavy making it difficult to steer, this usually happens intermittently but will always lead to complete failure if left for long enough.

The common failure symptoms:
1. Noisy power steering pump.
2. Intermittent loss of steering.
3. Complete loss of power steering.
4. If left for long enough the power steering motor/pump can over heat.
